It’s a low effort kind of week, with no particular standout topic. I guess in many ways that’s good, no news is good news. But it does make the self-imposed job of “local complaints and rambles dispenser” a lil’ tricky. (shrug)
* On Spam
I wouldn’t normally bother bringing this to any more attention – it was kinda fun and cathartic to use it as the basis for a whole post at its expense the other week, but beyond that I haven’t had an issue with spam. But I suppose when the baseline level of activity is a nice regular zero, the 1 or 2 instances of garbage drifting into the filters becomes notable.
Seems that, in the wake of designating my default welcome post as the “post here if you’re stupid” lightning rod, the target shifted up to the next oldest entry, which is to say the first actually real one. Could be an intriguing nugget of info for someone more techno-minded than myself, but I don’t intend to do much with it.
…besides, it’s probably coincidence.
* Masking
As we’re now well into the 5th year of the era of the great and terrible plague, it seemed like an ideal time to finally upgrade myself from those dinky little cloth masks that are of dubious value. On recommendation, it seemed like a reasonably professional model available at the local hardware place (…okay yes, it was Bunnings. Damn monopolistic dinguses) was a good bet.
Since obtaining said mask, I’ve had a small and only partially expected boost to my general confidence and peace of mind. It’s easy enough to wear, but also large enough to ensure I don’t leave home without it. Like a hat or some other fun accessory. Would recommend, if you’re not opposed to a slightly muffled voice. However…
* Society Was A Mistake
Thanks to an unspoken “easy-going Aussie attitude” in the general population, as well as being outside the larger urban centres, it seems like most people have stopped giving a crap about the virus. Which means that when I do walk around with my relatively high-end protective gear, it can run into some friction from bemused jerks who probably assume I’m overreacting… or are otherwise a sickly, fragile little thing that can’t afford to be so much as lightly coughed within 10 meters of, lest my terminally ill body immediately explode in a shower of bloody lung chunks.
At least 2 separate geniuses have called me Darth Vader, despite lacking half a face’s worth of mask, and the hood part. I find their lack of intelligent and original quips disturbing.
Anyway, that’s all I’ve got this time around. Look forward to the “mini” tag being a source of continuing disappointment.
